What is Franchising?

Franchising is the relationship between the owner of a specific company, brand or trademark and an individual or partnership giving the individual or partnership the right to use their company name, brand or trademark in the development of their business.  The "franchisor" is the one who grants the independent operator the right to use its products, techniques and trademarks for a percentage of the gross sale and a royalty fee.  The "franchisee" is the individual or partnership that wants to use the franchisor's brand or trademark.
